I have been watching several videos on youtube in anticipation of the iOS 13 update for the i-phone. I couldn’t hold on any longer so I downloaded the Public beta available online to my phone and will list the features that have excited me the most!
In a nutshell, we address the following:
Dark Mode | Photos app | Messages | Swipe Keyboard | Apple Arcade | Cycle Tracking | Safari enhancements | New Emojis
Dark FREAKING Mode
It’s absolutely stunning! and visually appeals to the eye.
What’s awesome is that you can have an automatic setting which will allow you to automatically switch between the two modes. This could be either sunrise and sunset or a manual time that you plug in.
Messages have a couple new knick knacks. You now how have the option to actually share your name and your photo with the person you are texting.
Whats majorly new is the introduction of Memoji Stickers. If you remember Bitmoji, then think of this is as ios’ version.
The general appearance of photos have become better. The grid size is larger making it much easier to view your photos at first glance.
The edit interface for photos have become more user friendly. New editing tools have been added(detail, structure, perspective crop) giving you more power to play with your photos.
A completely new addition is that now you can FINALLY edit your videos inside of the photos app. Earlier on, you could only trim your clips but now you can rotate, crop, edit the exposure, brightness, contrast, sharpness and much more.
Now I don’t know about you, but since I’m an avid user of the apple watch, I quite often use the health app. But besides all the little upgrades made to the app, I am most happy about the fact that apple is now added Cycle tracking to the app! YES LADIES!, no more downloading third party apps to log your menstruation cycle; your inbuilt health app can be used to log your period, symptoms and it’ll also help predict your next period and fertility cycle.
Apple is introducing a new gaming subscription service on the app store “Apple Arcade”. It boasts to have over 100 games on its platform with zero ads and off-line access. For users with multiple apple devices you can stop your game in one device it pick up from where you left off on any other device (iphone/ipad/macbook). At the moment the public beta does not provide access to it, but it will available with the final update in the fall.
Safari has come up with some really great improvements. It is much more productive and user friendly now. Like the mac version you can now download files which was a major restriction on previous versions of the ios. You can also mark up on documents within safari, send across pdfs, adjust settings for a particular website and a lot more.
If you use a macbook, you will be very familiar with the new home page for safari showing the sites you frequent the most. The new browser is definitely more powerful and productive.
The new music app just made singing along your favourite tunes much easier. Lyrics can now be easily accessed and they run right along the song Karaoke Style! You can also forward and go back in the song by simply tapping on the corresponding lyrics!
Let’s face it, emoji’s play a big part in our day to day texting life. Apple is introducing the following new emoji’s this fall: (not available on the beta update)
Waffle | Falafel | Butter | Garlic | Sloth | Flamingo | Disability related | Orangutan | Skunk | Varios gender combinations | Kite |
