Poha is a traditional breakfast recipe in India. Since chopped potato pieces are also usually added to this recipe, this healthy breakfast is also referred as Aloo Poha. Below are the ingredients and the recipe to enjoy this yummy breakfast!
1 – 1.5 cups of Poha
1 medium sized onion (finely chopped)
1 medium sized potato (finely chopped)
1 green chili (finely chopped)
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 pinch of Asafoetida (heeng)
1 Tbsp finely shopped coriander leaves
2 Tbsp Oil
Salt (as required)
1 Tbsp grated coconut (optional)
1 medium sized lemon (Squeeze and juice)
1/4 Tsp Turmeric Powder
1- Wash the poha on a large stainer twice under running water and sprinkle salt after draining the water fully. Toss and keep it aside
2- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
3- Add cumin seeds, green chili and asafoetida (Peanuts optional). Fry them until crisp.
4- Add chopped onions and fry until it is a little brownish in color
5- Add chopped potato and salt. Mix well.
6- Cover the pan and let it cook until the potatoes are a little soft. Mix in between to avoid sticking
7- Add Turmeric Powder. Mix well and cook for a minute.
8- Add soaked Poha and mix well.
9- Add lemon juice, grated coconut and coriander leaves and turn off the stove.
10- Transfer the Poha to a bowl and its ready to be served.
